Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is a typical Feel Good game like Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley, or Abzû. It takes you to the small town of Mineral Town, where you start a new life. At the beginning of the game, you decide whether you want to play a male or female character. Besides the classic characters Pete and Claire, there are also two new protagonists, Naomi and Yuuto. Once you've decided, you'll start your new life on your late grandfather's farm. In the meantime, this farm has become quite run-down. The first thing to do is to bring it up to scratch.

The first hours of play in Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town are much more pleasant than in many other series spin-offs. Although townspeople regularly drop by to explain essential things to you, you can already go on your first discovery tours and explore some things yourself in the first few minutes of the game. In some other spin-offs, you first have to click through a flood of dialogs before you can finally get started. Although you only get access to new features in bits and pieces, the introduction plays pleasantly and the developers keep it short. Important things are explained in crisp, short infoboxes. Old hands can therefore skip many parts of the introduction.

A typical day in Story of Seasons consists of farm work, animal care, and interaction with the inhabitants of Mineral Town. You'll grow fruits and vegetables, take care of your animals, and make friends over time. Numerous marriage candidates and suitors want to be wooed. If you put enough effort into it, you can finally conquer the heart of your sweetheart and celebrate your wedding. Gender doesn't matter, same-sex relationships are possible.

In between, a few festivals are not to be missed, of course. These also serve primarily to maintain your social contacts. On top of that, they bring color into the daily routine of farm work. Besides this, you can spend your time in the mine, fishing, and cooking.

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town offers some innovations compared to the original. For example, you can choose between Easy and Normal Mode. If you choose Easy Mode, you'll play with some facilitation. Some functions such as fishing and cooking have been reworked, as well as the characters' designs and their sprites. You can also look forward to more clothes and new animals.

Conclusion:
Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town seems just right. In these not always stress-free times, it's like a balm for the soul. Fans get here what they expect from a Story of Seasons - or Harvest Moon. An idyllic country life full of farm work and with the care of cute animals. The game's enchanting look is also cute, and I was immediately taken with it. Besides the sweaty farm work, the hunt for a suitable wedding candidate can't be missed. Gender does not play a role. Small events occasionally break the otherwise prevailing routine.

Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town is the remake of one of the best series spin-offs and convinces thanks to some innovations. Whether you're an old hand or a newcomer to farming, the game is fun and entertaining. Ideal to simply escape from everyday life for a few minutes. Which, by the way, is even easier than in the original, since you can now save at any time. It doesn't offer quite as much as some games that have taken up the concept. Nevertheless, it cuts a good figure alongside Stardew Valley and My Time at Portia. The mother of all farm simulations hasn't lost its charm, even after decades.
