With Need for Speed Heat, the series finally returns to its old strengths and shows what a modern and yet typical Need for Speed can look like. The series finally ties back to old glamorous days instead of trying to experiment.

In Need for Speed Heat, you become a racer. You start your career as a No Name and can choose from a modest number of cars. You can also choose between a Nissan and a BMW M3. The city of Palm City serves as the setting. Illegal street racing is causing a lot of trouble there, which is why the police are taking aggressive action against the hooligans on the streets.

Starting with almost nothing, you'll work your way to the top, race by race. In doing so, you'll earn money on the one hand and reputation on the other. The reputation is important, so that well-known racers of the scene take notice of you. You need the hard-earned money for more performance and new cars. A few visual upgrades also visibly enhance your cars.

During the day you'll get a lot of money in legal races. The cops don't play a big role here. However, the scene doesn't care what you do there. At night you earn less money, but plenty of reputation - and the attention of the cops. If they catch you, they will pursue you - even in the middle of a race. So you not only have to keep an eye on the competition but also on the law enforcement. The smooth transition from racing to free driving is very pleasing.
